Withof ... Before and After
Because of my interest in and working Floral Bedfordshire I started decorating Withof. I also made my own designs which were not flowing. I used the Withof techniques and followed my own path. I started using stitches from other laces and created my own stitches which I share in this book. I also worked several layers on top of each other. I wanted my lace to be alive. This is why I gave Withof…Before and After that name. With my lace I try to create on my pillow the picture I make up in my head.

The Beauty of the Orient Painted in Thread
During my stay in Singapore an antique dealer showed me an exquisitely embroidered Chinese robe. This picture struck a chord with me so much that I wanted to try to work it in lace.
The Chinese embroidery is very realistically executed, mostly in bright colours. For lace I prefer white and ecru, as I believe that colour distracts from the technique.
I chose to work with silk, a material with a beautiful sheen. I experimented with techniques to achieve the picture I envisioned.
